A well in a country house is perhaps one of the most important components of comfortable living in a country house. It is he who provides owners with clean and very tasty water. And in order for the water in the well to always be clean, leaves falling from trees, mown grass, rain, flying insects and other unnecessary debris should not fall into it.
To ensure that well water is protected from all these troubles, the well is equipped with a cover, or a special superstructure - a decorative house, which will not only ensure that foreign objects do not get into the well, but will also decorate your well, and therefore the entire summer cottage.
Today it is not a problem to buy a house for a well in a retail chain, but you can also make it yourself. Made independently, it will not only be less expensive in price, but also original, unlike other structures of this type. In addition, it is not at all difficult, and the materials for production are publicly available and not very expensive.
DIY well house
To make your own well house you will need:
Wooden beam 50*50 and 50*100;
Metal rod and corner;
Smooth log;
Bushings;
Lining;
fire-resistant paint for wood and impregnation;
Door fittings;
Hardware (screws and nails).
You need to start making a house by measuring the size (diameter) of the well rings. Then a base made to the diameter of the well is installed. Vertical posts are attached in the center of the sides, and connected to the corners of the base.
For this, a 50*50 block is used.
Be sure to check the strictly vertical position of the racks using a building level. In order to make our structure more durable, we use a metal corner.
The beams that act as rafters are attached to the posts and frame at an angle of approximately 45 degrees.
The next stage of construction will be the manufacture of the spindle. Any fairly smooth, thick and strong log will do for this. The length of the spindle is determined by the distance between the posts of the house, minus 4-5 centimeters.
At the end of the spindle, holes are made with a depth of 50 mm and a diameter of 20 mm. To avoid boring the log with a rotary hammer, the holes are reinforced with iron plates with holes of the same diameter. A rod is inserted into both ends of the spindle. On the left is a straight line extending 40-50mm out of the hole, on the right it is curved at an angle of 90 degrees, which will subsequently serve as a handle.
To fasten the spindle in the racks, holes are also made in them for bushings into which the spindle rods will be inserted. The height of the holes is determined by the required height of the spindle above the well ring.
To make the spindle rotate more easily and eliminate creaking, the bushings can be lubricated with some kind of lubricant. Ordinary solid oil is quite suitable for this.
When the structure of the house is installed and securely fastened, we attach a chain of the required length with a bucket for water to the spindle.
To install the bucket after lifting it, a shelf is built on the side approaching the well. The size of the shelf is not important, the main thing is that it is convenient for you, and that the shelf can withstand the weight of a bucket of water.
The remaining sides of the well are reinforced with boards, which, along with the frame, serve as its base.
The well door can be made from the rest of the boards or lining, and attached to the frame using hinges. The roof of the structure is also made of clapboard or boards, and attached to the sheathing, nailed to the rafters and frame.
The roof ridge is made of a couple of wooden boards.
Of course, wood is a material that is not very resistant to the influence of external adverse factors, so after the house for our well is ready, it must be protected.
Antiseptics are used to protect wood from fungus and other external influences. Their choice today is quite diverse. For decorative treatment of wooden structures, you can use both special impregnations and antiseptics with a decorative component in the composition.
If all of the above seems too complicated to you, you can somewhat simplify the design of the house, making it consist only of a roof attached to posts. In this case, the well is closed with a lid with a door.
For lovers of Russian culture, a well house made in the “Rustic” style will be perfect. “Rustic” translated from Latin means simple or rough. A well house in this style is made of rounded logs and resembles a real rustic log house.
To protect the building, colorless varnish or decorative antiseptic impregnations are used.
