Restoring your passport

Contacting the police

A lost passport will be included in the invalid list. This is done in order to prevent its use by other individuals who may accidentally find it. After all, it is possible that the finder will turn out to be an unscrupulous citizen and will try to achieve some selfish goals with the help of this very passport.

There is no need to hesitate to visit the police station. It is better to generally try to report the unpleasant disappearance to the police on the very first day. In this case, the likelihood that someone will find a lost passport and begin to use it for personal gain will be minimized.

Men's Health

A week (probably, maybe more) to discover the very fact of a missing passport. A week of sluggish searches, a week of sworn promises to myself before going to bed (“Tomorrow I’ll definitely write a statement!”). Then a couple of weeks of pre-New Year bustle, two weeks of vacation and another week to open your eyes. Give or take a couple more weeks.

Returning from the police, I found a letter from the bank in my mailbox (let’s call it “Bank A”): it turns out that I have a three-month loan debt that urgently needs to be repaid. What followed was a standard set of threats: we will report you to the credit bureau, restrict your departure from the country, and take all measures provided for by law, “including the most stringent” (. ).

How to write an application?

Arriving at the police station, a citizen who has lost his passport will have to write a corresponding statement. The police will ask if the passport could have been stolen. Of course, this option cannot simply be excluded either. After all, the document was lost, and the exact reason is not known. It is impossible to say for sure that no one stole it.

This is especially true in cases where the absence of a passport was noticed immediately after traveling on a train or bus. But if you tell the police that your passport might have been stolen, they will start opening a case, and then the process of restoring the most important document will be delayed. And no one really needs this.

Therefore, if there is no 100% certainty that someone stole your passport, then it is better not to write in the application that there is a suspicion of theft. Once the statement is written, the police officer will register it. Then the applicant will receive a coupon. So, having notified the police about the loss and received a ticket, you can begin to restore the lost document.

Is it worth picking up someone else’s passport that you find and where to return it?

When returning the lost property to the owner, you can only rely on his good faith.

Recently, on one of the social networks, a Biychan resident published a message about the loss of his passport: “What kind of people! I dropped my passport from my pocket around the 31st block. He has a residence permit in Biysk, so it won’t be difficult to return him, but because the money was there, the one who found him deliberately didn’t do it. Well, if I had taken this money for myself, I would have even offered it to him for the document. But no, you have to go and do it again. So that’s what all this is about, people, be people, such a ridiculous situation can happen to anyone!”

The message, more like a cry from the heart than information asking the finder of the document to return it, caused a lot of controversy. The opinions of the townspeople were divided, some wrote that they had returned what was lost more than once and received gratitude, others persistently advised everyone not to take someone else’s property, even with the goal of returning it.

It is amazing how often in the modern world goodness can be punished. But an action that you do with an open heart and a sincere desire to help can lead to a completely different ending.

“Once my husband and I found a passport, found a guy, and decided to return it. So he accused us that there was also a wallet and money there. If only they knew, they wouldn’t return him, it’s his problem,” wrote one of the page visitors.

“We once returned the passport to the owner, it turned out that it was stolen along with her purse, and then she called the police on us, saying that you were the one who stole it,” another Biysk resident supported this opinion.

I can’t help but remember the proverb: “Don’t do good, you won’t get evil.” And the question arises: have people really become so callous and tough that they make claims and suspicions against those who are ready to help completely free of charge?

But the stories of other commentators still make us not lose hope that there is a place for good deeds that end well:

“I found a passport, a guy from a nearby village, I found a phone number, I didn’t think about any reward, but he brought cognac and sweets,”

“Once I found a push-button phone, not expensive. I called contacts and found the owner. A man came, very happy, with wine and chocolates. Good is not always answered with evil!

It turns out that when returning the lost property to the owner, you can only rely on his own good faith.

How does the law advise to act in such situations?

“The found passport must be handed over to the migration department or to the police duty station,” explains Yuri Zavidov

, head of the migration point of the Priobsky police department. — You will be required to explain the circumstances of how the document was found, and service employees will contact the owner of the passport to return the lost document to him. If you have lost your document, you must contact the migration department as soon as possible to prevent the possibility of your passport being used for criminal purposes. If your document was stolen, you should contact the nearest police station and write a statement, since a crime has been committed, without this your passport will not be restored.

Fine for loss of passport

It is worth keeping in mind that the loss of a passport is attributed to a violation of the law. A person who loses their passport may be fined. You will have to pay about 200 rubles. A protocol will be drawn up.

The document must be restored as soon as possible. Otherwise, you will then have to pay another fine, the amount of which will be an order of magnitude greater.

Important! If a citizen who has accidentally lost his passport does not take any actions aimed at restoring the document for a long time, he may be fined several thousand rubles.

Restoration price

It’s worth saying right away how much the restoration might cost, if you don’t take into account possible fines. The issuance of a new passport is subject to a fee of 1.5 thousand rubles. More recently, this amount has been increased for some documents. And now those who need to restore something must pay more. However, this does not apply to passports. For them, the fee remains the same.

Where to apply for passport renewal?

Many citizens are surprised to learn that it is impossible to restore a document if it is lost through the MFC. First of all, you will have to contact the FMS. Only in rare cases can a citizen who contacted the police with this problem be sent to the MFC.

Another question that is often asked by those who are unlucky enough to be left without a passport is “Is it possible to restore a document through State Services?”

It must be borne in mind that this portal can provide assistance only if the citizen has made an appointment with the Department of Internal Affairs of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. If you sign up in advance, you won't have to wait long in line. However, in any case you will have to interact with representatives of the Department.

My lost passport was returned - what should I do? Do I need to go to the passport office?

Hello, Sergey Evgenievich. You must hand over the found passport to the Russian Federal Migration Service so as not to tempt fate with it. Unfortunately, you will be held accountable under Art. 19.16 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation, since you filed a statement about the loss of the passport of a citizen of the Russian Federation to the division of the Federal Migration Service of Russia, and, therefore, the passport you previously lost was declared invalid. However, do not despair, if you bring your passport to the FMS authorities, you will most likely be given a warning; the sanction of the article allows this. Good luck.

I would recommend that you withdraw your statement from the police. At the same time, clarify whether the police took any action on your application. If the police did not have time to do anything, then there is no reason to worry. However, if the police notified the Russian Federal Migration Service at your place of residence, then most likely, as Evgeniy previously indicated, your passport was declared invalid, and all issues will need to be resolved with the FMS.

What documents will be needed to renew my passport?

Before going to the FMS, you need to prepare all the documentation, without which it will be impossible to restore your passport. First of all, you need to pay the fee. Then you can start collecting documents.

  1. A couple of photos You definitely need to take a photo. The result should be at least two photographs measuring 35x45 mm.
  2. Coupon The second document that you need to take with you to the FMS is the same coupon that was issued at the police station immediately after writing a statement about the loss of the main document.
  3. Birth certificate The passport cannot be restored without providing a birth certificate. Moreover, you need to take with you not only your testimony. You will also have to bring all the evidence of your children. But this applies, of course, to those citizens who have already become parents.
  4. Marriage Certificate You will also need a marriage certificate. Of course, this also does not apply to everyone, but only to those who have already managed to start a family. In addition, if the marriage has not only been created, but also dissolved, you will also need to provide a document confirming this - that is, a certificate of dissolution.
  5. International passport If a person who has lost his main passport had to travel abroad, then he will need to take his international passport with him.
  6. Military ID The main passport must contain information about military service. Therefore, you will need a military ID.
  7. Receipt for payment of the state duty And, of course, it is important not to forget to take with you a receipt that will confirm that the fine and duty have been paid.

How to submit documents?

As soon as all the necessary documentation has been prepared, you can take it and go to the UMV unit. If you made a preliminary appointment through State Services, then you should come here at the appointed time. Otherwise you will have to wait your turn.

Once you have an appointment with a police officer, you must hand him the entire package of documents. After this, the citizen will be issued a certificate.

After some time, the new passport will be ready, and you will also need to go to the UMV for it.

Important! It should be remembered that a new document can only be issued to the citizen himself or a person who is his representative.

Next, you need to collect a certain package of documents and contact certain authorities to restore your identity card. But where exactly are the papers submitted? If you have lost your passport, you need to contact the same authorities where the identity card was originally issued. Namely:
