The first thing you need to do before collecting documents and going to the migration service is to decide what type of international passport for the pensioner will be when issued. Today, all citizens of the Russian Federation have two options for obtaining a foreign passport:

International passport of the old and new sample: differences

Currently, two types of foreign IDs are valid in parallel within the country: the biometric one, which appeared in 2009, and the old format international passport. They have no fundamental external differences; the whole difference lies in the internal content:

1. Among the main differences is the presence of a special plastic page in the biopassport, which contains electronic information about the owner of the document. They are encrypted in a special way and placed on a microchip.
2. In addition to this, there are differences in the period of action. The new form of foreign passport is issued for 10 years, the old form is valid for only 5 years.
3. From the second point, the following difference emerges - in the number of pages: the old sample has 36 pages, and the biometric one has ten more.

Types of international passports: which one to choose, a new biometric one or an old one?

Currently, the state gives citizens the right to choose between two types of foreign passports: a new generation (biometric) and an old one (without any electronic media).

Ordinary photographs are not suitable for a biometric passport, since they physically cannot contain the necessary “electronic” data. Which passport to choose depends solely on the citizen himself.

Despite the fact that the procedure for issuing an old-style document is simpler - it is issued for only 5 years, then the procedure will have to be repeated all over again.

In addition, from an economic point of view, it is more profitable to issue a biometric passport: the state duty for the old one is 2,000 rubles, and for the new one – 3,500 rubles, and it is valid for twice as long.
